What’s On in April & May 2018

Spring is finally here to stay and the list of events in Geneva, Vaud and nearby France is filled with exciting outings for the whole family, including some fab egg hunts for the little ones!

Here’s our list of suggestions, but remember to keep checking our blog as we will be updating it with more events each week.

Easter Activities:

  • until 15th April 2018: Pâkomuzé, family Easter activities across 35 museums in Lausanne, Pully, Yverdon & the Vaud riviera.  The 13th edition of “PâKOMUZé” is back this year to keep your little munchkins entertained during the Easter holidays. The objective of PâKOMUZé (phonetic transcription of ‘Pâques au Musée’) is to offer a selection of great kids activities ranging from police forensic workshops for 10 to 12 year-olds at the UNIL Lausanne to Easter chocolate workshops at the Alimentarium and “Princesses & Knights Tours” at the Musée historique de Lausanne. Most activities require previous booking, so make sure you reserve your places when registrations open on the 20th of March 2018. Click here to download the full programme, which includes free activities, and those that require advance booking.

  • until 22nd April 2018: Fun Easter activities for children at C L’Aventure indoor play centre in Annemasse (France).  Entry is free for children under the age of 1; 6.50 Euros for children aged 1 to 3 and 10.00 Euros for ages 4 to 12.

  • Sunday 29th April 2018: if for any reason you missed your Easter egg hunt these school holidays, here’s a chance to make up for it! Egg hunt in Prévessin-Moëns from 10am to midday, tickets are 3 euros per egg hunt.

April 2018 Events:

  • Tuesday 10th April 2018: Atelier Pizza, from 10.45am to 11.30am at Signal de Bougy. For ages 5 to 12, let your little ones learn the ropes of authentic pizza making with a professional pizzaiolo, they will also be able to eat up their yummy creations once they’re cooked.   • Wednesday 11th April 2018: Elever sa propre colonie de fourmis – Animation enfants FREE workshops for ages 7+ at the Muséum d’histoire naturelle, Genève (1, route de Malagnou) from 2pm to 4.30pm. FREE ENTRY but places are limited so they must be booked in advance at lucie.cauwet@ville-ge.ch

  • Wednesday 11th April 2018: “Momie et Cie”, part of the Mercredis Family  family workshops at the Musée d’art et d’histoire in Geneva (Rue Charles-Galland 2). Children aged 6 to 10 accompanied by an adult are welcome at 3pm to discover all about the museum collections in a fun, interactive way.   • 11th-15th April 2018: Salon International des Inventions at Geneva Palexpo. Find out about the latest inventions and gadgets from all over the world, shown here for the first time.

  • Friday 13th April 2018: Rencontres jeunes mamans et papas à la Villa Freundler, free Friday sessions for young parents and their babies/toddlers at the Villa Freundler in Plainpalais (Place de Saint-François 4). A chance to meet other young parents, make new friends, chat over a cup of tea and take part in parenting workshops (in French), every Friday from 3pm to 5pm. FREE ENTRY, no advance booking necessary.

  • 13th-21st April 2018: Visions du Réel, Nyon’s international film and documentary festival. Visions du Réel is definitely an appointment not to miss if you love thought-provoking and original films dealing with the reality and contradictions of this amazing world of ours.   • 13th-21st April 2018: “Cully Jazz Festival”, a great music festival and the most important jazz festival in Switzerland, with over 100 free concerts (Festival Off), alongside the official line-up. Click here for full details and to book tickets.

  • Saturday 14th April 2018: Family Concert #3 “The Fairy Queen” by Geneva Camerata. Another great family concert for children, a unique mix of classical pieces and shadow theatre. The concert will be held at the Salle Frank-Martin in Geneva at 11am (Collège Calvin. Rue de la Vallée 3).

  • 20th-22nd April 2018: Journées Européennes des Métiers d’Art in Geneva and Vaud. Would you like to see what happens behind the scenes of the city’s most important cultural institutions? Would you like to meet the people who work there and learn more about what they do? If so, book your place for one of the guided tours or free workshops taking place in Geneva and Vaud at the end of April 2018.   • 20th-29th April 2018: Printemps Carougeois – Carouge’s spring festival will kick off with an impressive line-up of concerts, dance shows, workshops and kids’ shows. They have a great line-up of children’s shows and workshops, click here for exact dates and times.   • 21st-29th April 2018: International Oriental Film Festival in Geneva with a section called “Fi-Fon-Fan” entirely dedicated to children aged 3 to 12 (programme details coming up soon). Movies will be screened at various locations in Geneva and nearby France, including the Cinémas du Grütli; CinéVersoix; Zinema; Office des Nations Unies à Genève; Centre européen pour la recherche nucléaire (CERN); Musée Ariana; Chat Noir; Moulin à Danse de Genève (MAD); Le Chic; Espace 99; Ecole Internationale Tunon de Genève; Ecole Internationale de Genève; Cycle d’Orientation de la Seymaz; Cinéma Le Patio (Ciné-Club de Gex).

  • Sunday 22nd April 2018: “Yoga-Visite”, parent-child yoga workshop for ages 6+ (children must be accompanied by an adult) conducted in French by Espace Colibri at the MEG museum in Geneva (Musée d’ethnographie de la Ville de Genève, Boulevard Carl-Vogt 65-67). The workshop runs from 10am to midday, tickets are 8-12CHF and must be purchased online ahead of the day as places are limited.

  • Just a quick reminder about the iconic Carrousel des fables at the Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques in Geneva: it’s a great activity for the little ones on a sunny day, to be coupled with a visit to the free mini zoo and the park’s playground! And when the little munchkins get a bit peckish, you can grab something delicious at Le Pyramus restaurant, located right next to the playground.

May 2018 Events:

 

  • until 6th May 2018: “Découvrir le monde – Genève”, a fun and interactive exhibition for toddlers and young children at the Salles du Rondeau in Carouge (Boulevard des Promenades 26). The exhibit reveals how our little ones go about discovering the world around them. There will be many free events and activities linked to this exhibition, click here for full details. ONGOING:

  • until 6th May 2018: Morges Tulip Festival. Spring wouldn’t be spring without the Morges Tulip Festival with its 120,000 tulips of 300 varieties, blossoming along the lakeside promenade of the Parc de l’Indépendance in Morges. The first varieties start blooming around mid-April (weather permitting) and there are plenty of activities planned for the duration of the festival.   • until 3rd June 2018: “Ça coule de source“. A great exhibition of an hydraulic structure’s construction site, inspired by the recent discovery made by archaeologists around the site of the ancient roman Aqueduct of Nyon. This exhibition will also show how the Romans managed and consumed their water sources. Pipes, taps, fountain plates, gargoyles, hydraulic facilities, coins and spillways illustrate the water’s course from the source, through its transmission across town, its distribution, use and disposal.

  • until 1st July 2018: “Ma petite histoire de l’art” a great new art exhibition suitable for ages 4 to 10 at the Espace des Inventions in Lausanne (Vallée de la Jeunesse 1). Open Wednesdays to Saturdays from 2pm until 6pm, and on Sundays from 10am until 6pm. Tickets are 7 CHF for adults and 5CHF for children. Entry is free on the first Saturday of every month.

  • until 15th July 2018: “T’es sûr-e ?”, a fantastic new exhibition suitable from age 7 at the Espace des Inventions in Lausanne (Vallée de la Jeunesse 1). The exhibition will teach and amuse your little ones with fun science experiments. Alongside the exhibition there will also be a series of fun workshops for ages 7 to 12 called “Le Club des petits inventeurs”, from 2pm to 5pm on selected days.   • until 14th October 2018: “Je suis ton père !”, an exhibition at the Maison d’Ailleurs which, thanks to the original approach of the thirteen international contemporary artists invited to Yverdon-les-Bains, deals with modern myths, and in particular the most famous of all: George Lucas’s Star Wars.   • until 6th January 2019: due to its outstanding success and by popular demand, the exhibition “Fourmis la grande exposition” at the Muséum d’histoire naturelle, Genève (1, route de Malagnou) has been extended until the 6th of January 2019! Discover the fascinating, unknown universe of these tiny insects.
