CARNIVAL CELEBRATIONS

MARCH 2017 EVENTS LISTINGS:
- 1st March 2017: Portes Ouvertes for everyone at the circus and dance school “Ecole de Cirque de Lausanne-Renens”. The hip hop trial classes are free, places must be booked in advance at Ecole de Cirque de Lausanne-Renens.
- 2nd March-9th April 2017: Festival du Film Vert, a film festival with a green conscience taking place across 30 towns in France and Suisse Romande. The festival will be showcasing an amazing range of international movies that deal with important ecological issues that concerns us all. - Friday 3rd; 10th; 17th and 24th March 2017: Art Jamming, organized by Life of Art at La Fabrique bistrot in Geneva. But what is Art Jamming exactly? It’s a new way to get creative whilst socializing and making new friends! Art jamming is all about creating art in a fun environment, with great music to inspire you and drinks at hand. In a group of about 10 people, our in house artist/teacher will create a painting in front of you, guiding you step by step through the different stages and techniques so that you can follow at the same time on your own canvas. So even if you are a beginner you can still join in the fun. It’s a 2 hour workshop where all materials are supplied and you get to take home your canvas. Meet and greet at the Bistrot La Fabrique, just opposite the Life of Art studio, at 18:00. - Saturday 4th March 2017: Concert en famille “Le Carnaval des animaux” by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The concert will take place at the Ecole Robert-Hainard in Bernex from 10am until 11.30am. The concert is suitable for children aged 3 to 6. - Saturday 4th March 2017: Les samedis à la Villa Freundler, free Saturday activities for families and children at the Villa Freundler in Plainpalais (Place de Saint-François 4). Activities include games, creative workshops, sports and they will run from 3pm to 7pm. FREE ENTRY, no advance booking necessary, children must be accompanied by an adult/carer.
- 4th-12th March 2017: Habitat-Jardin, a fantastic home decor & garden exhibition at the Expo Beaulieu in Lausanne. With 500 exhibitors this is the place to go to find that special piece of furniture you’ve been pining for, or everything you need to indulge your inner gardener. Open from midday to 8pm during the week and from 10am to 6pm at the weekend. Tickets are 16CHF for adults and entry is free for children up to the age of 16.
- Sunday 5th March 2017: Free entry to all museums and exhibitions in Geneva, a special initiative organized by the city of Geneva offering free access to permanent and temporary exhibitions on the first Sunday of every month.
- Sunday 5th March 2017: “Cap sur les Amériques avec Tohu Wa Bohu” story-time songs and music for children at Geneva’s MEG museum (in French). Suitable for toddlers from age 2, the first session will take place from 3pm to 3.45pm in the museum’s foyer, and the second one from 4pm until 4.45pm. FREE ENTRY, no advance booking required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
- Sunday 5th March 2017: Petits Rendez-Vous for children at Geneva’s MAMCO, conducted in French and English. These are free, interactive guided tours for kids aged 5 to 10 accompanied by an adult. The tours start at 11.15pm. FREE entry, no advance booking required.
- Tuesday 7th; 14th; 21st and 28th March 2017: Chinese Painting classes for adults at Life of Art in Geneva. The classes will run every Tuesday afternoon from 1pm until 3pm. - 9th-19th March 2017: 87th International Motor Show at Geneva’s Palexpo. This motorshow needs no introduction, so we’ll just share some good tips: all tickets bought on site after 4pm are half price; there will be a day nursery in the Entrance Hall, caring for children aged 3 months – 7 years (1st hour free of charge, after that CHF 6 per hour). Last but not least, beware of the traffic congestion around Geneva’s airport for the duration of the motor show.
- 9th-19th March 2017: L’autre salon, organized by the association PRO VELO Genève, runs in parallel with the International Motorshow and offers an eco-friendly alternative for all those people who’d rather cycle than drive. This is ‘alternative’ Geneva at its best: the programme is filled with very interesting activities (whether you’re a bike-pro or not) including bike parades, live music in various locations and vélo-polo. - 10th-19th March 2017: International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) at the Maison des Arts du Grütli in Geneva (16, rue du Général-Dufour). Don’t miss this extraordinary festival, which showcases films and documentaries about contemporary human rights: violence against women, poverty, torture, international justice and climate change.
- Saturday 11th of March 2017: the Musée Ariana in Geneva will be launching a series of fun guided tours and Saturday workshops for little ones aged 2 to 4, starting on the 11th of March 2017 but you must reserve your places now so make sure you do it well in advance! - 11th-12th March 2017: “Festival Ramdamjam”, dance and music festival for little ones at the MEG museum in Geneva (Musée d’ethnographie de la Ville de Genève, Boulevard Carl-Vogt 65-67). From Indian dance workshops to Beatbox how-to classes and “eveil musical” lessons for babies, this festival has it all covered. Shows and workshops are suitable for children aged 2 to 10, tickets are 15CHF for a child day-pass, free entry for adults. Find the complete programme online. - 11th-12th March 2017: GENEVE CHÊNE-BOUGERIES Festival de marionnettes et Cie. A great puppet-show festival (in French) from age 3 at the Salle Jean-Jacques Gautier in Chêne-Bougeries (Route du Vallon 1). Tickets cost 10CHF per person. - until 12th March 2017: Peppiland, outdoor playarea with bouncy castles for all ages and sizes at the Parking Colovray in Nyon (VD). Open from 11am until 9pm. Entry tickets cost 10CHF per child and are valid all day.
- Open until 12th March 2017: The patinoire de Nyon-Rive reopened for the winter season at the end of October. This year, the ice rink will be open 7 days a week! Click here for exact opening times. ENTRY IS FREE, ice skates for children can be hired for just 3CHF (5CHF for adults).

- 19th-25th March 2017: Rock the Pistes Festival at the Portes du Soleil (France). If you love skiing and rock music then this is the right festival for you: with great live concerts right on the best ski slopes in Europe, fun is pretty much guaranteed (and the best thing is, you can enjoy a live rock concert without having to book the baby-sitter!). - 21st-26th March 2017: CineGlobe Festival International de Films at the CERN in Geneva. CineGlobe returns to the Globe of Science and Innovation in Geneva to celebrate its 10th anniversary (and seventh edition). On this remarkable occasion, the festival addresses a theme which is crucial in this day and age – the blurring of the line between fact and fiction. Political, Social, and Scientific, this edition – titled Myths and Realities – will underline the importance of information and rationality in addressing the challenges that face our world. Our survival depends on our efforts to combat the increasingly anti-scientific attitudes which surround our modern day political discussion. - 30th March-2nd April 2017 Mednat Expo at the Expo Beauliue in Lausanne. This is the largest and most important exhibition in Switzerland dedicated to natural remedies, healthy eating and organic produce. With over 240 exhibitors, yogathon sessions and cookery workshops there is something for everyone! See the official website for full details.
- until 31st March 2017: Festival Couleurs d’enfance, a delightful theatre festival for children aged 0 to 6 in the Geneva and neighbouring France region. - 31st March-2nd April 2017: Journées Européennes des Métiers d’Art in Geneva and Vaud. Would you like to see what happens behind the scenes of the city’s most important cultural institutions? Would you like to meet the people who work there and learn more about what they do? If so, book your place for one of the guided tours or free workshops taking place in Geneva and Vaud at the end of March 2017. This is the best chocolate festival in the Suisse Romande: with over 33 exhibitors and chocolatiers present you will be able to taste some delicious chocolate, learn how these scrumptious creations are made and also take part in a Chocolate Egg hunt on Sunday at 11.30am. - 1st-2nd April 2017: Carnaval d’Annemasse, fun carnival celebrations in Annemasse (France) with activities starting at 3pm on Saturday 1st of April. Don’t miss the parade kicking off at 3pm on Sunday, with its carnival floats and children in full dress-up costumes! FREE ENTRY.

- until 23rd April 2017: Kid’s Life 2, a great space for children which will include over 10 bouncy castles, building blocks, balls pools for little ones, table football and much more. Older children will find sumo costumes and archery games. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am until 6pm (but they will be open Monday to Sunday from 10am until 6pm during the Vaud school holidays!). Ticket prices are 8CHF for ages 2 to 6; 15CHF for 6+; FREE ENTRY for parents and children under 2.
- until 30th April 2017: “Pop Art, mon Amour”, a great exhibition about Tadanori Yokoo and Osamu Tezuka, a cross-over between the Japanese Warhol and the manga author, best known for Astro the little robot. - until 18th June 2017: “Les portes de la fantaisie”, a great exhibition suitable for ages 4 to 11 at the Espace des Inventions in Lausanne (Vallée de la Jeunesse 1). The exhibition will introduce your little ones to the fascinating world of architecture.
- until 15th July 2017: “T’es sûr-e ?”, a fantastic new exhibition suitable from age 7 at the Espace des Inventions in Lausanne (Vallée de la Jeunesse 1). The exhibition will teach and amuse your little ones with fun science experiments. Alongside the exhibition there will also be a series of fun workshops for ages 7 to 12 called “Le Club des petits inventeurs”, from 2pm to 5pm on selected days.
